Another Year of Books

Welcome to my blog. Where reading a lot of books is the goal.

Emily Powell

2 minutes read

After I read something more challenging, like the last read, I always want my next book to be easy and light-hearted. Usually, I stick to the authors I know. That’s exactly how I picked this next book.

Book Read: The Proposal
Author: Jasmine Guillory
2020 Book Count: 6

Nikole Paterson’s boyfriend of five months just proposed on the Jumbotron at a baseball game, with no warning. Nik says no. It doesn’t go over well, at all.

Carlos Ibarra happens to be sitting nearby with his sister, and they jump into action to get Nik away from the cameras and stadium. As Nik deals with the backlash, she and Carlos develop a friendship, that blooms into a friendship with benefits. It seems like it’s what both want. But will it stay that way?

As their friendship grows, each will have to figure out what they actually want, and how far they are willing to go to get it.

Add best friends who are willing to take self defense lessons, a punch well deserved, a tight night family and some killer tamales, and you’ve got The Proposal

This book is as straight forward and corny as they come. It was just what I needed. I previously read The Wedding Date by Guillory and had the same reaction. Actually, some of those characters popped up in The Proposal. I actually had to go back to my post about The Wedding Date to double check that. Apparently, this is number 2 of The Wedding Date series. I didn’t even know this was a series! I honestly just thought it was a coincidence. It now makes so much more sense.

I secretly feel like I should hate this book, but I just can’t bring myself to do it. I love the Friends with Benefits feel to it.

If romance novels and/or romantic comedies are your thing, this is a book for you. The Proposal is an entertaining read, that has laughs, friendships, and a slightly serious side at times. You’ll be rooting for each character the entire time.

Is it the greatest book you’ll ever read? No. Will you enjoy it? Yes.

Next Read: TBD*

*I actually already finished reading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone before I even wrote this post. I picked my next read (and finished it), so I’ll tell you more about that in the next post.
