My boyfriend and I bought a townhouse a few months back, so when we say we have neighbors, they is no yard to separate us. Luckily, we like them.

Book Read: The Couple Next Door
Author: Shari Lapena
Number of Books Read: 39

Anne and Marco Conti go to a dinner party next door. They decide it’s best to leave their newborn daughter at home, checking on her with a clockwork-like schedule. Seems like the perfect plan, right?

When something happens that night, it’s pretty obvious the blame is automatically put on the parents. But the story that begins reveals truths, lies, and deceptions one layer at a time.

It seems like the perfect life - Marco is a successful entrepreneur (or is he?), and Anne is a doting mother (or is she?). The Couple next Door each seems to have their secrets - Marco’s business may need some help, and Anne experiences traumatic blackouts that leave her with gaps in her memory, both of the tragic night and of other days in her past.

As the truth finally comes out, Anne’s happy family is no longer what is seems, and it proves money can’t buy you everything.

Lapena makes you feel the suspense as you’re reading this novel. You think you know what happened and who did it, then BAM. Another twist. While at some point you start to read between the lines and figure out the answers to the questions, the ending will catch you off guard.

Apparently suspense novels are my thing these days (next book is not a suspense novel - my boyfriend told me I should read something happier). My last read was a disappointment. This one lived up to the wonder I felt when reading the description on Amazon.

Like I said, thank goodness we like our neighbors.
