Another Year of Books

Welcome to my blog. Where reading a lot of books is the goal.

Over the past few years, I have tried to keep up with the top books of the year. It usually worked out. For 2020 though, I decided to read what I wanted, when I wanted, with no restrictions. That led to rereading a few books I’ve read in the past, discovering a new author and reading most of her books, and managing to read at least one of the best books of 2020. Lucky for me, my sister subscribes to Book of the Month and leant me this next read.

It’s hard to believe it’s already December and the holidays are quickly approaching. Some days, it feels like it was just March; other days, it feels like March was actually three years ago. At least one thing is consistent no matter what way you look at it - there is always another book to read.

We all know 2020 is a weird year. Well, weird is one way to put it. I’m sure it will only continue that way in the next six weeks as we round out the year. It only seems fitting that my 52nd read of the year is also a bit weird.

The Twilight Saga was the “it thing” when I was in high school. I read all four books and saw the first two movies. The second movie was so bad, I never saw the three follow-ons. I remember that the first movie had an amazing soundtrack, and my favorite line of “Since I’m going to hell” in a school parking lot scene (the rest of the movie was meh, looking back). Still, I enjoyed the original series when I read them, so I figured I’d read Midnight Sun when my future sister-in-law loaned it to me.

I’ve spent the last few weeks rereading the first two books of the Paradise series by Elin Hilderbrand before picking up the third one. For the past two years, she has put out one book a year and I’ve read them (see this and this). I usually just pick up the latest book and start reading, but this time I thought to myself: “Pause. Reread the first two books.” So I did before picking up the third and final book, which arrived from Amazon in early October.
