“We didn’t start the fire
It was always burning
Since the world’s been turning.”
But wait, in this case, someone did start the little fires.

In Shaker Heights, everything has a purpose, and it’s planned. Shaker was built on it. When Mia Warren and her daughter Pearl arrive in town, one family will never be the same.
Elena Richardson is a true resident. Born and raised in Shaker, she’s raised her family there - two sons, two daughters, one daughter who just doesn’t see things the way Elena does. When her children all become friends with Pearl, her cookie cutter life may not be all it seems. And it’s not Pearl’s fault - she just lets the Richardson kids be who they really are.
Then the town is shaken by a custody case involving an abandoned baby. Family members against family members, friends against friends, Mia against Elena. Elena begins to dig into Mia’s past, resulting in revelations that cause a ripple effect.
I loved this book. That’s it, there’s my review.
Each character had their story, whether it was Mia’s background, Trip, Elena’s son, or Lexie who has a decision to make. Each is unique and could be a book of itself. But it’s the connections that make this book that’s centered on the draw and power of motherhood, and to what cost people will go to protect their own.
I previously read Ng’s first novel Everything I Never Told You, which I always loved. So Little Fires Everywhere was added to my list, and boy am I glad I did.
My suggestion: go out, buy this one. Or reserve it at your local library because I’m sure there aren’t any copies available. You’ll be glad you did.
